Hybrid solar panels consist of a combination of monocrystalline cells and thin film layers. This allows more energy to be extracted from the same size of panel, with the result that hybrid panels are typically 20% smaller than mono or polycrystalline panels of the same power output. For this reason they are often used on smaller roofs to maximise the amount of power generated from the limited space available. Hybrid solar panels are more than twice as expensive as standard mono or polycrystalline solar panels, so they are only used for these specific applications.
